Implants can be an Excellent Solution for Missing Teeth or Loose Dentures

LANCASTER, PA - (March 10, 2014) - Lancaster dentist Dr. Matthew T. Kingston will offer a free seminar on dental implants at the Healthy Smiles Dental office, 144 South Centerville Rd., from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 27. In addition to Dr. Kingston, an oral surgeon/ implant specialist, lab technician, and Nobel Biocare implant representative will provide information and answer questions. Light refreshments will be served.

The seminar is open to the public. There is no charge, but advance reservations are needed. Call 717-945-7440 to reserve a seat.

"When teeth are lost, eating becomes more difficult, speech can be affected, and self-confidence can falter. Surrounding teeth can shift and can also be at a greater risk for fracture, as these teeth take on a greater workload in chewing and biting," Dr. Kingston observed. "Replacing missing teeth restores confidence, function and the ability to eat normally again," he said.

"A dental implant is a small fixture that replaces the missing root portion of a tooth. It is made of titanium, the same material used in hip and other joint replacements, so it is strong and totally biocompatible. Once the implant is integrated into the jawbone, it can be used to support a single crown that restores the patient's physical appearance and chewing function. An implant-retained crown also allows the replacement of the single tooth with no adjustments to or stress placed on surrounding teeth," Dr. Kingston explained.

"Multiple implants can be used to support a bridge, a full or partial denture, or even a full arch of permanently-installed teeth," he continued. "In fact, implants can be an excellent solution for those who have a partial or full denture that is loose or irritating to the mouth and gums. Sometimes people stop wearing their dentures altogether. Implants are installed in the jaw, and corresponding snap attachments are placed into the denture. The result is a very tight-fitting denture that feels snug and improves eating, speech and confidence," Dr. Kingston said.
